Tips for Businesses During the Pandemic
With this checklist, you’ll get the summary back. 10 tips to better control your company during the corona crisis.
1. Get information about your financial situation
What do I have in cash, what do I need to receive and what do I have to pay? And when do I have to pay? Make sure you have your payment obligations under control. Because if you know what you have, what you still get and still have to pay, you also know how much you may lack.
2. Request a payment deferral from the tax authorities (Belastingdienst).
At a time when your income is as uncertain as it is now, you want to minimize costs. The government takes this into account. Therefore, you can temporarily defer your tax payment and indicate in how many parts you wish to postpone the payment. Deferral is possible for various types of taxes, such as payroll tax, income tax, corporation tax and VAT tax. In addition, the Dutch Customs (Douane) is lenient and, upon request, also grants deferment of payment.
3. Discuss your options with your bank
Chances are you are running out of credit and are having a hard time keeping your payment obligations under control. Several schemes can offer a solution for this. Small entrepreneurs and freelancers can, for example, contact Qredits to apply for a loan or bridging loan.
Discuss the options with your bank. There may be a financing extension, or you can apply for credit. Several banks have indicated that they want to do their part by providing loan repayments on loans of up to €2.5 million.
4. See what the city council (Gemeente) can do for you
The city council can give entrepreneurs more financial room to breathe. They do this by being flexible in collecting local taxes. Think of the Real Estate Tax (OZB), tourist tax, advertising tax and terrano tax. Not all municipalities have the same regulations. Check with your town hall for which municipal taxes it is possible to defer or pay in installments.
5. Request a postponement from the water board (Waterschap)
The water boards are thinking about how they can help entrepreneurs get through the corona crisis. If you are in trouble, you can ask for a pardon. Water boards also try to pay their bills well before they are due and to ensure that orders and permits are issued to businesses.
6. Request deferral for the payment of the pension premium (Pensioenpremie)
Do you check if you can be granted a deferment to pay pension contributions? Employers affected by the corona crisis can also inform their pension fund for a possible payment arrangement.
7. Make use of the government’s emergency package
The government has established financial agreements that can help your company financially. Read more about this in a full description of this emergency pack.

8. Contact your trade association (Brancheorganisatie)
Over the last few weeks, your trade association has thought carefully about what is required specifically for your industry. Maybe they can do something for you. In addition, the government offers aid to several sectors oriented:
BL: financing for agriculture and horticulture
Tourist tax and cultural sector: generic and specific measures
SET COVID19: subsidy for digital care applications (This arrangement is closed)
9. Inform your customers
Have your activities changed? Tell your customers how your company is doing and what you do. Many customers like to think with you and appreciate that you are looking for alternatives. This way you keep your customers with you. It’s also good for later, when the crisis is over. Also, many entrepreneurs help society in creative ways during this difficult time.
